My father has a Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics and I can’t even figure out howto use the second function keys on the scientific calculator. My seven yearold son, however, thinks numbers are “fun”, and he and my father play mathgames together. Should I just leave my son with my father until he gets hisPh.D. too, and hire a Swedish au pair to keep me company?

You’re living in a dream world, son. First of all, your father has nothingbut contempt for you and your piddly self image is a direct result of this. What kind of effect will he have on your son? Sure, it’s all fun and mathgames now, but what happens when you come home and find your kid in aSkinner box? The Swedish au pair will simply report you to the authoritiesand you’ll be checking in with your parole officer for the next few years. My advice, give up on math and go into therapy. The longer you draw thissick scenario out, the worse the final reviews will be.
