If two bits make 25 cents, then there are eight bits in a buck. But there are also eight bits in a byte. Does this mean a byte is worth a buck?
———- from Harry Browne of Albuquerque, NM

Only if you buy the byte at one of those rip-off computer stores with gray carpeting and frigid salespeople with perfect clothing. They know absolutely nothing about computers. If you go to the right place, an 80 megabyte hard drive costs only a couple hundred bucks. There the salespeople are teen whiz kids with bad complexions and little in the way of personality. That’s why I order all computer products by mail. Or you can buy your computers from the former Soviet Union. Nowadays you can buy a byte for 10,000 rubles. Unfortunately the hard drives are made out of cast iron and bakelite, weigh just over a ton and need to be revolved by hand. Fun!
