If I spend $75 to have my brown hair colored blond, how come when it getswet it goes right back to being brown?
———- from Meaghan O’Brien of Dublin, Ireland
You’re paying too much. Simple laundry bleach will do the trick and add apleasing green tint to your newly blond tresses. Chances are the hair dyeyou’re paying so much for is some kind of half-hearted ink that simply coatseach hair with a thin veneer of blond polysorbate 60. When wet, it revertsto the base color of all things, a boring brown that is so undistinguished, even the most talented copywriter could not come up with a name for it. Sothey just call it “Brown”. Mix laundry bleach with dish soap and you’ll have a shampoo that lightens every time you wash. Blonds have morefun, it’s true, and now you can join them for pennies a month.
