If gasoline raises the octane level, why don’t we just run cars on ethanol and forget gasoline altogether?
———- from Brad Schnurr of Fort Dodge, IA

In this country, most public policy is decided by a group of old, white men who convene once a year in a hotel room in Dallas, Texas. These men are Captains of Industry who really make all the important decisions that affect our daily lives. Most of them are in the oil business. Up North a thousand miles or so, groups of elderly farmers meet every morning at their small town cafe and wonder how they’re going to hold onto the farm with corn prices as low as they are. I can’t think of a more elegant description of this seemingly complex problem than the scenario I just presented.
