What is the evolutionary purpose of grocery store coupons?
———- fromĀ Aunt Mildred of Brainerd, MN
For most of the million or so years that homo sapiens have roamed this planet, they’ve survived thanks to what anthropologists call a “hunter/gatherer” lifestyle. Traditionally, the men hunted and the women gathered. It was not until the dawn of agriculture, around 10,000 BC that this changed. In fact, in some remote corners of the earth like northern Minnesota, women continue to gather berries and shopping bargains, while men stalk game and relax during double bubble. Grocery store coupons are a natural substitute for colorful berries. The former are ripped out of Sunday supplements, while the latter dangle invitingly from a branch.
