How come when I sit in a movie theater, the tallest person always sits right in front of me?
———- from Kyle DeWees of Muncie, IN

That person wasn’t tall when she or he sat down, but the rays of interest coming from your eyes, projected toward the screen caused that person to grow, literally right in front of your eyes. These same rays cause things we pay attention to, well, become more prominent…and things we ignore to virtually disappear from our consciousness. This is why staring at houseplants causes them to experience a sudden growth spurt. Whenever I go to a movie, I always wear polarized sunglasses. For some reason, this diffuses the rays coming from my eyes and no one ever sits in front of me.
