Does camera film weigh more or less after you take a picture? I’m going to be taking a long hike and wondered if I should bring my camera along.
———- from Rod Kwamee of Seely Lk, MT

Most images have a certain weight to them. Very complex — or exceedingly ugly images — can stick with you for a lifetime. These can quickly add up, especially on a 36 exposure roll. Slide film is the exception; it actually loses mass with exposure to light. If you were to shoot an entire roll of slide images of, say, a brightly lit beach scene, your camera might simply float away. This is why so many people lose their cameras at tropical resorts. I’d recommend you leave the camera at home. Have you ever willingly looked at a picture of a tree?
