If Neil Armstrong was the first person to set foot on the surface of the Moon, who filmed him climbing down the steps of the lander module?
———- from Matthew Cole of Sittingbourne, Kent,, UK
That was the famous lunar cinematographer, Milos Kazinskii. One of the moon’s premier lensmen, he won an Oscar for his role in the making of “Shoot the Moon.” He also ran camera on “Blue Moon”,”Moon River”,”Paper Moon”,and “Moon over Miami”. Industry regulations demand that all lunar cinematography be done by resident moon men and women. Currently, there are no female lunar camera operators, but affirmative action programs within the trade are hoping to add a few within the next decade. By the way, Neil muffed his line, because the script girl, Pauline Kazinskii, Milos’ wife, was working from an early first draft that hadn’t been adequately proofed.
