Can chlorine break up water molecules?
———- from JayDevin Pattersonwillis ofNew Orleans, LA
Only if they had a rotten relationship to begin with. No outside party can break up a healthy marriage, but a couple of the verge of splitting up will always take a few hostages, just to make sliding out the side door a little easier. Quite reactive in their uncoupled state, chloride ions send out strong messages, broadcasting their availability and willingness to engage in chemical hanky panky. They have been called the “halogen homewreckers” by those prone to the whimsical use of alliteration. Besides smelling bad, they have the ability to erase their responsibility in any situation, by bleaching the evidence of their complicity. A return to traditional family values would eliminate chlorine from our drinking water completely.
