No outside party can break up a healthy marriage, but a couple of the verge of splitting up will always take a few hostages, just to make sliding out the side door a little easier. Quite reactive in their uncoupled state, chloride ions send out strong messages, broadcasting their availability and willingness to engage in chemical hanky panky. They have been called the &#8220;halogen homewreckers&#8221; by those prone to the whimsical use of alliteration. Besides smelling bad, they have the ability to erase their responsibility in any situation, by bleaching the evidence of their complicity.
